Sally A. Rutledge

Biography

Sally A. Rutledge is Of Counsel to the Firm, and she focuses her practice on commercial and residential real estate transactions. 


With over three decades of experience, Ms. Rutledge advises clients across industries on a broad spectrum of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, and portfolio management.


Prior to joining Sellers, P.C., Ms. Rutledge was with a Michigan business law firm and served as outside counsel to a major automotive original equipment manufacturer, working onsite at the company’s headquarters as the lead legal advisor for all dealership real estate transactions. In that role, she negotiated and drafted purchase and sale agreements, leases, site control agreements, and ancillary real estate documents. She worked closely with internal stakeholders and external consultants to evaluate legal risk, supervise due diligence, manage litigation strategy, and oversee the company’s national real estate portfolio.


Earlier in her career, Ms. Rutledge developed a broad transactional practice that included business law, mergers and acquisitions, and joint ventures, and commercial and residential real estate transactions. She supported both asset and equity transactions from negotiation through closing, including drafting of complex agreements, supervising diligence teams, and coordinating with financing sources and opposing counsel. She also worked as a contract attorney on high-volume projects involving commercial lease analysis and corporate divestitures, further sharpening her ability to manage intricate details while keeping strategic goals in focus.

Experience

  • Ms. Rutledge earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, where she served as a Case and Comment Editor of the University of Detroit Mercy Law Review, a member of the Moot Court Board of Directors, and an officer of the Student Bar Association and Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and an Associate in Applied Science degree in Legal Assistant from Ferris State University.
